Gondwana Namib Park is a private nature reserve located in southwestern Namibia, situated right on the edge of the ancient Namib Desert. Bordering the expansive Namib-Naukluft National Park, this conservation area covers tens of thousands of hectares. It forms a striking transition zone between the towering red sand dunes and the rugged granite outcrops further inland.
The reserve was created by consolidating several former livestock farms and dismantling internal fencing. This land restoration project enabled natural vegetation to recover and reopened historical movement corridors for native wildlife. Today, the park serves as a vital sanctuary for species uniquely adapted to surviving in a hyper-arid environment.
The live camera is positioned at a solar-powered waterhole within the reserve, offering a continuous view of local wildlife activity. Because natural surface water is extremely scarce across the Namib Desert, this water source attracts animals throughout the day and night. Viewers watching the feed can spot a variety of desert species:
In addition to the animals, the webcam showcases the changing desert landscape, from glowing red dunes at sunrise to unobstructed views of the starry night sky.
Gondwana Namib Park offers several eco-conscious lodges and campsites designed to blend harmoniously with the desert surroundings. Guests staying in the reserve can join guided nature drives, walking safaris, and photography excursions led by experienced local guides who share knowledge about desert ecology.
The reserve is an excellent base for exploring iconic nearby destinations such as Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Access to the park is via well-maintained gravel roads. While reachable with a regular passenger car, a high-clearance SUV or four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended for a smoother drive across the terrain. Thanks to minimal light pollution, the area is also renowned for exceptional stargazing.
Gondwana Namib Park experiences an arid desert climate marked by low humidity and significant temperature shifts between day and night. The dry winter months from May to September offer the most comfortable weather for travel. Daytime temperatures typically range from 20°C to 25°C, though night temperatures can drop near freezing. With natural water drying up elsewhere during winter, wildlife activity around the waterhole reaches its peak.
Summer runs from November to March and brings intense heat, with daytime temperatures frequently rising above 35°C or 40°C. Late summer occasionally brings brief, localized thunderstorms that briefly revive dry riverbeds. You can check current local weather conditions and view the live feed directly on this page.
LIVEThe European Air Quality Index (AQI) measures the presence of particulate matter and gases. Values between 0 and 20 indicate very clean air. Above 50, air quality can noticeably decrease for sensitive individuals.
Our pollen index tracks the concentration of the most common allergens. A 'High' status means strong dispersion, which can directly impact hay fever symptoms in the region of Gondwana Namib Park.
