Climate and Nature
Tajikistan is a dramatically mountainous landlocked country, with over 90% of its terrain covered by mountains. It experiences a continental climate with scorching summers in lower valleys and freezing winters in high altitudes. The Pamir Mountains – often dubbed the 'Roof of the World' – feature massive glaciers, peaks surpassing 7,000 meters, and stunning alpine lakes like Iskanderkul and Karakul.
Culture and Gastronomy
Tajik culture is deeply tied to Persian heritage and ancient Silk Road traditions. Hospitality is a cornerstone of daily life. The cuisine shares ties across Central Asia, centered on Osh (Plov), a savory rice dish cooked with lamb, carrots, and spices. The economy of Tajikistan relies heavily on aluminum production, cotton farming, and remittances sent home by Tajik expatriates working abroad. Abundant mountain runoff provides huge hydroelectric capacity, exemplified by the massive Nurek Dam and the ongoing Rogun Dam development.
