Climate and Nature
South Sudan experiences a tropical climate with a long rainy season (May to October) followed by a dry, hot season (November to April). The physical landscape spans tropical savannas, southern rainforest belts, and the immense Sudd wetland basin fed by the White Nile. The country shelters the world's second-largest land mammal migration.
Culture and Gastronomy
South Sudanese culture is deeply rooted in pastoral traditions of ethnic groups such as the Dinka, Nuer, Bari, and Shilluk, where cattle hold central cultural importance. Gastronomy features wholesome staples including 'Asida' (stiff sorghum or maize dough), 'Kisra' (flat sourdough bread), Nile perch fish, and peanut-based vegetable stews.
Economy
The economy of South Sudan relies overwhelmingly on crude oil production and exports, which generate virtually all government revenues. Outside the oil sector, the vast majority of the population relies on subsistence agriculture, cattle herd pastoralism, and freshwater fishing in the Nile basin.
