Climate and Nature

Panama enjoys a tropical climate with high humidity and consistent temperatures around 27-30 °C. The country experiences a dry season (January to April) and a rainy season (May to December). The diverse landscape spans dense rain forests, cloud forests, and volcanic peaks to idyllic Caribbean and Pacific islands rich in marine life.

Culture and Gastronomy

Panamanian culture is a vibrant mix of indigenous traditions (such as the Guna and Ngäbe-Buglé), Spanish colonial heritage, and Afro-Caribbean influences. Seafood plays a starring role in local cuisine. Signature dishes include Sancocho (a savory chicken soup with cassava), Ceviche, Patacones (fried green plantains), and world-renowned Geisha coffee.

Economy

Panama's economy is one of the fastest-growing and most stable in Latin America. Its main economic driver is the Panama Canal, a vital international maritime route. The economy is further supported by banking, international trade logistics (Colón Free Trade Zone), maritime registries, and a rapidly expanding tourism sector.

  • The Panama Canal was originally built by the United States and fully handed over to Panama on December 31, 1999?
  • The world-famous 'Panama hat' actually originates from Ecuador, not Panama?
  • Panama City is the only capital city in the world to feature a real tropical rainforest within its city limits (Metropolitan Natural Park)?
  • The indigenous Guna people of the San Blas Islands operate an autonomous territory, managing their own ecotourism and archipelago?
