Climate and Nature

Nauru experiences a hot and humid tropical equatorial climate. Geographically a raised coral atoll, its fertile coastal belt surrounds an interior plateau consisting of jagged limestone pinnacles left behind by decades of intensive phosphate mining.

Culture and Gastronomy

Nauruan culture blends Micronesian customs with Western and Asian influences. The local cuisine relies heavily on imported food products, supplemented by fresh catches of ocean fish like tuna and snapper, as well as coconuts.

Economy

Nauru was historically one of the wealthiest nations per capita due to high-grade phosphate exports. Today, the economy relies on development support from Australia, offshore processing center operations, and commercial fishing licenses.
