Climate and Nature

Liechtenstein has a temperate alpine climate with cold, snowy winters and mild to warm summers. Its position in the Rhine Valley offers milder weather than expected for its mountainous geography. The country features the flat Rhine basin in the west, flanked by the dramatically rising peaks of the Rätikon mountain range reaching over 2,500 meters.

Culture and Gastronomy

Liechtenstein's culture is deeply rooted in German-speaking alpine heritage, sharing close ties with neighboring Switzerland and Austria. The Princely Family remains central to national life. Gastronomy is hearty and alpine-inspired, featuring Käsknöpfle (small pasta dumplings served with melted local cheese and crispy onions), Riebel (a cornmeal dish), and fine wines produced in the Princely vineyards.

Economy

Despite its small size, Liechtenstein has one of the highest GDP per capita rates in the world. Its economy is anchored by a sophisticated financial services sector and high-tech manufacturing, specializing in dental products and industrial tools. Liechtenstein maintains a monetary and customs union with Switzerland, using the Swiss Franc as official currency.

  • Liechtenstein is one of only two doubly landlocked countries in the world (surrounded entirely by other landlocked countries)?
  • On National Day (August 15), the Prince opens the gardens of Vaduz Castle to invite the entire population for drinks and a celebration?
  • The nation has no standing military force, having completely abolished its army in 1868?
  • Liechtenstein contains more registered corporate entities than actual residents owing to its historical business legislation?
  • The melody of Liechtenstein's national anthem is identical to that of the British anthem 'God Save the King'?
