Climate and Nature

Lesotho experiences a temperate alpine climate with cool to freezing winters and mild, rainy summers. Due to its extreme altitude, snow falls regularly across mountain passes in winter. The landscape is defined by rugged ranges (Maloti and Drakensberg), deep gorges, and dramatic waterfalls.

Culture and Gastronomy

Basotho culture is deeply tied to mountain living, instantly recognizable by traditional woven blankets and the 'Mokorotlo' straw hat. Cuisine emphasizes hearty mountain staples like 'Papa' (cornmeal porridge), 'Moroho' (stewed greens), and grilled meats.

Economy

Lesotho's economy relies heavily on the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, exporting fresh water and hydroelectric power to South Africa. Diamond mining (including the famous Letseng mine), textile manufacturing, livestock (wool/mohair), and mountain tourism drive national growth.
