Climate and Nature

Eritrea exhibits diverse climatic zones based on elevation: a hot and arid coastal desert along the Red Sea, a temperate highland climate in the center (where Asmara is located), and semi-arid plains in the west. The landscape includes volcanic islands, coral reefs, dramatic mountain ranges, and lush highland forest belts.

Culture and Gastronomy

Eritrean culture fuses Horn of Africa heritage with lingering Italian influences. Cuisine centers around Zigni (a spicy beef stew) served over Injera (a sourdough flatbread), coupled with traditional coffee ceremonies. Espresso coffee and pasta dishes remain widespread everyday cultural staples.

Economy

Eritrea's economy is predominantly based on subsistence agriculture and pastoralism. Mining for valuable mineral resources such as gold, copper, zinc, and potash forms a growing source of revenue, alongside commercial fishing along the Red Sea coast.
